At Family Law in Partnership we welcome the ground breaking ruling of the US Supreme Court (26/06/15) to recognise same sex marriages throughout the US.

In Obergefell et al. v Hodges the Supreme Court ruled that the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution guarantees a right to marry that is protected under the US Constitution. Accordingly the US states may not refuse to issue licenses to same sex couples to marry and they must recognise such unions validly performed in other states. The decision represents a clean sweep for the cause of marriage equality in the US.
