Why Therapy Matters in Divorce
A recent article by eprivateclient, observed:
“Perhaps one of the most unique aspects of Family Law in Partnership’s legal process is the involvement of therapists who work alongside clients and lawyers.”
That’s because we care about your emotional wellbeing as much as the legal process. Our in-house divorce consultants and relationship therapists work alongside our lawyers to provide therapeutic support before, during and after separation.
Not only do they support people through difficult emotional challenges, but they also give lawyers a deeper understanding of clients’ motivations, triggers and needs.
As FLiP Director James Pirrie explains: “having a completely different perspective makes all the difference.” David Allison, also a Director at FLiP further comments “My experience is that no one else has been willing to have the therapist as an integral part of the practice, which I find fascinating because divorce and separation are notoriously difficult to navigate emotionally and having the support of a therapist who understands the legal process can be really helpful.”
Elizabeth Hicks (director at FLiP) highlighted in a recent interview with Cavendish Family Office how important it is to have a therapeutic offering available – “Although therapy can sometimes be seen as a “soft skill”, at FLiP we see it as essential. Every client is offered the opportunity to meet with a therapist or counsellor as they go through their separation.”

Managing Conflict and Stress During Divorce
Every divorce is different, but the emotional hurdles are universal. Jo and Andrew can support you at every stage:
Thinking About Separation
If you’re still considering whether to separate, it can feel overwhelming. Friends and family may have their own opinions, which can cloud your judgment. Talking to a neutral professional can help you clarify your thoughts, regain balance, and make decisions with confidence.
During the Divorce Process
Divorce can bring up powerful emotions—anger, grief, fear, uncertainty—that make the legal process harder. Jo and Andrew can help you manage those feelings, prepare for mediation or court, and approach negotiations constructively. This can ease tension, reduce conflict, and even save money by keeping disputes from escalating.
Moving Forward
Once the legal process is over, the personal journey continues. Jo and Andrew help clients reflect on what led to the end of the relationship, learn from it, and prepare for healthier future relationships. They also support parents in navigating the transition to co-parenting, ensuring children are supported along the way.
Supporting Children
Children often feel the impact of separation most intensely. We work with parents to find the right support for their children, drawing on our trusted network of child specialists to ensure their wellbeing is prioritised.
Meeting your goals
Divorce is a turning point, and while it can be painful, it can also be the beginning of something new. As eprivateclient recognise we really believe that therapy should be “an “integral part of the process”. They further comment that what we are doing and always have strived to do, is “putting the clients first, and helping them think about the right solutions to achieve their desired goals.”
If you would like to discuss how therapy might help you, please get in touch for an initial consultation to talk about how we might work together.
