World Mental Health Day 2022
Today is World Mental Health Day and the theme this year is “Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority.”
World Mental Health Day is also an opportunity to talk about mental health in general, how we need to look after it, and how important it is to talk about things and get help if you are struggling.
The Mental Health Foundation have put together their top mental health tips, backed by research, which you can read about in more detail here: https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/explore-mental-health/publications/our-best-mental-health-tips
In summary, their top tips are:
- Get closer to nature
- Learn to understand and manage your feelings
- Talk to someone you trust for support
- Be aware of using drugs and/or alcohol to cope with difficult feelings
- Try to make the most of your money and get help with debt problems
- Get more from your sleep
- Be kind and help to create a better world
- Keep moving
- Eat healthy food
- Be curious and open-minded to new experiences
- Plan things to look forward to
At FLIP we know that separation and divorce can have a huge impact on the mental health of couples, their children and the wider family too. We recognise how important it is for people to talk about things and to get help if they are struggling. In March 2022 we co-sponsored a keynote event in London “Taking the Fight out of Family Separation” to raise awareness of the role of family law professionals and the family justice system more generally in supporting families to separate well to minimise conflict. And our chosen Charity of the Year is YoungMinds, the UK’s leading mental health charity for young people.
The NHS has a page of recommended resources and we have a page dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of those going through divorce or separation which can be accessed here.
