“Each divorce is different and has its own set of challenges. I offer a place, alongside the legal process, where individuals and couples can think about what might be difficult and help try to understand and alleviate that. In doing so I support individuals to go forward with their lives, and help divorcing couples relieve their children of the pressures that can arise when their parents split up”
Jo is our in-house therapist. She is very experienced in working with individuals and couples who are separating.
Why see a counsellor when you are separating?
Jo says: “When a couple separate there are difficult choices to be made and difficult feelings to cope with – whether those feelings are your own or those of your ex-partner. Being able to talk about and process the changes that divorce entails can be really helpful and it can also be a real comfort to know that some of what is being experienced is normal. We can use counselling to think about what is going on for the whole family and to help think about how to minimise the impact on the children. Some people come in for a one-off session and others may come more regularly – it really depends on the situation and we can think together about what might be best. If circumstances indicate that other experts might be of support then we can think together about who and where”
A former family lawyer, Jo has a depth of experience in being able to understand the legal process. She can work with clients, either individually or as a couple, to support them through the process.
Clients can meet with Jo for an initial consultation at our offices in Aldwych to think about what help is required. This can be at any stage before, during, or after a divorce or separation.
Jo also works with couples in the following circumstances:
Couples who want to explore whether to divorce or how to cope with their divorce
Pre-nuptial or post-nuptial agreements
