Elizabeth Fletcher

Elizabeth is an experienced family lawyer and an accredited family mediator, who has been mediating for over 15 years.

Elizabeth’s mediations cover all family law issues including in relation to finances, housing and children, often with an international dimension.  She frequently mediates “all issues” mediation where parents are looking to resolve their financial and children issues within one forum.  She also mediates for parents to resolve child arrangements where there have been issues around historic high conflict and is known for improving their communication and long-term co-parenting relationship.

Many of Elizabeth’s mediations involve complex mental health issues, which need to be navigated with care.  She routinely supports neurodivergent individuals through mediation and is skilled at adapting the process to accommodate individual needs.

An active proponent of family mediation, Elizabeth sits on the Family Mediation Council committee for Family Mediation Week, an annual awareness campaign to promote the benefits of mediation as a constructive and cost-effective alternative to court.  Elizabeth hosts an annual in-person event for anyone interested in family mediation and for Family Mediation Week 2026 she co-hosted webinars on including children’s voices in family separation and supporting the neurodiverse in family mediation.

Elizabeth is actively involved in promoting the needs of neurodivergent individuals and their children within the mediation process, often in conjunction with FLANC, an organisation set up to ensure the needs of the neurodivergent are met in the family justice system.  With FLANC, she led the development of professional guidance to help mediators and others provide better support to neurodivergent individuals.  This resulted in the provision of an online toolkit for legal professionals, which Family Law in Partnership maintains and provides free of charge here.

Elizabeth has sat on the Family Law Committee at the Law Society for 8 years and has particularly supported Non-Court Dispute Resolution on that committee. Elizabeth holds Resolution Specialist accreditations in private children law and domestic abuse.  You can view her lawyer profile here.

Elizabeth’s recent mediation work has included:

• Working with a couple involved in proceedings regarding the living arrangements for their child.  There was a backdrop of a long running history of conflict between the parents. They successfully concluded the mediation and compromised the legal proceedings.
• Acting as a mediator on a divorce enabling a couple who had faced significant emotional trauma to find both a financial resolution to their divorce proceedings and good arrangements for their child, who could then enjoy significant amounts of time with each parent.
• Supporting parents in mediation who were struggling to reach an agreement over the secondary education of one of their children.  She worked through the issues with the parents to find a solution for the whole family.
• Mediating for a couple who were separating after a long marriage with four children together, which required careful consideration and handing as one parent was suffering with addiction issues and one of the children had severe educational needs.
• Mediating for two parents in a high conflict relationship where there were concerns about parental alienation. They wanted a mediator who could help them to reach a parenting agreement for the future arrangements of their young children and help them to improve their co-parenting relationship.
