Charlotte Symes

Charlotte is a director and accredited mediator at Family Law in Partnership. She trained as a mediator under the supervision of FLiP’s Head of Mediation, Dominic Raeside, one of the most experienced mediators in the country.

Drawing on her experience as a family lawyer, Charlotte provides clients in mediation with an insight into the approach of the courts to particular issues. This often proves to be a significant help to Charlotte’s clients in reaching decisions in mediation. Her practical and calm approach enables Charlotte to manage high conflict matters and to keep clients focussed on finding solutions for their families.

Charlotte mediates clients on all issues, including those relating to finances and children. Mediation sessions with Charlotte can take place online or in person.

Many of Charlotte’s clients have international aspects to their situation and Charlotte understands the importance of the cultural interplay in relation to expectations of the mediation process. Charlotte has a particular expertise in French matters having lived and worked in France.  A graduate of St John’s College, Cambridge, Charlotte has an MA in French and German.

Charlotte is recommended for her family law expertise by The Legal 500 UK 2021: ‘I chose Charlotte from personal recommendations and was not disappointed.’ Her ‘diverse and international’ practice is noted in The Spear’s 500 2020 Index which goes on to describe Charlotte as a solicitor who goes ‘out of her way to make what can be a painful process as stress free as possible.’ Charlotte was also named as a Rising Star family lawyer for HNW and UHNW clients in the Spear’s 500 2021 Index.

Charlotte is a member of the Franco-British Lawyers Society, Resolution and the Family Mediation Council.

Charlotte’s recent mediation work has included:

• Charlotte co-mediated with FLiP’s Head of Mediation Dominic Raeside for a couple in relation to the division of their finances on divorce, as well as arrangements for their 5 year old child.
• Charlotte sole mediated for a French couple who lived in London in relation to the arrangements for their three young children. As there were allegations of domestic violence, communication with both clients was especially important and required careful handling during the mediation sessions.
