Meet The Team Tuesday Ft. Daniel Coombes

Meet Daniel Coombes, one of FLiP’s Directors and expert family lawyers. Daniel handles a wide variety of family law issues, with particular emphasis on resolving financial matters following divorce and applications concerning children. 

1. So, Daniel, how long have you been at FLiP?

Since 2005, so 18 years!

2. What does your role entail at FLiP?

As a director my role entails acting for clients in all the areas of family law that we cover, but also helping to develop the associate solicitors and sharing in the running of the business. Key areas of the business that I am involved with are IT and the EDI committee.

3. What is the best thing about your job?

Helping someone get through a tough time in their life and seeing them out the other side safely, in a much better frame of mind than when I first met them – and working well as a team with the next generation of top family solicitors.

4. Are you a tea or a coffee drinker?

Definitely tea. I drink a lot of it, and I’m pretty fussy about it: it needs to be strong and not too milky!

5. What is the hardest thing about your job?

It is depressing if your client’s ex and/or their solicitor is unreasonable or unpleasant – and/or unrealistic (or all three!). However, if that’s the case, you just roll your sleeves up and get stuck in!

6. What motivates you at work?

Getting a good result for my client and any children they may have, and seeing my client much more optimistic.

7. When you are enjoying some well-deserved leave, describe your perfect day?

Assuming I am at home and not somewhere else, it would definitely begin with a lie in, a cup of tea in bed and a tasty breakfast with the family. Then, some pottering in the garden (with more tea – see 4 above!). I’d get out on my motorbike somewhere, in decent weather. Later it would be a bit of culture: an exhibition or a film, or both if time allowed, followed by drinks and dinner somewhere.
