International Comparison of LGBT Laws 2020

International Comparison of LGBT Laws 2020

The laws affecting LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) people vary greatly by country or jurisdiction.

In this handbook, produced by the LGBT Committee of The International Academy of Family Lawyers (“IAFL”), you will find answers to questions commonly asked about the relevant legislation. The LGBT Committee of the IAFL commissioned this survey to capitalise on the knowledge and expertise of members for the benefit of the IAFL and the LGBT community as a whole. The handbook was first produced in 2019 and has now been updated.

The commonly asked questions are set out at pages 4, 5 and 6 of the handbook, and the handbook covers submissions from 46 different jurisdictions. The individual submissions in the handbook are the work of fellows of the IAFL who have kindly donated their time and expertise to answer the same questions. Each of the contributor’s names and contact details are included.

The IAFL supports all efforts towards the equality of the LGBT community. It is hoped that the handbook can continue to be updated to cover more jurisdictions.
