FMC 10th Anniversary Conference: James and Evette Join Leading Voices on the Future of Family Mediation

The Family Mediation Council (FMC) marks its 10th anniversary with a conference focussed on ensuring the growth of the profession. Contributors from Family Law in Partnership join an exciting roster of industry voices who will consider key issues and opportunities in family mediation.

Senior Accredited Mediator and Director, James Pirrie will join the opening panel discussing the state of family mediation, alongside, Beverley Sayers, Rachael Blakey and Simon Bruce. James and his fellow panellists will reflect on the challenges overcome as well as the challenges and opportunities ahead, including consideration of mediation against the one-lawyer model, the subject of a report launched last week by Rachael and considered by James here. They will also:

  • Consider how those needing support can access the service they need
  • Reflect on the decline in access to justice as legal aid providers leave the market.

In addition, Evette Pottinger, Head of Marketing & Business Development will join Mike Mack, CEO of the Family Mediation Trust, to lead a workshop titled Starting with the Customer. Mike and Evette discuss ways of ensuring that the needs of the client come first and how this results in the best outcomes for families and mediators alike.

About James:

James first trained as a mediator in the late 1980s under Yvette Walczyk and within 40 years (via negotiating, litigating, collaborating, arbitrating, round-tabling, one-lawyering, parenting-after-parting-ing) the penny finally had finally dropped: that if you had to choose one, well mediation probably is the robust base-plate.

About Evette:

Evette specialises in brand and customer experience for service-based organisations. She combines a passion for helping people with practical experience spanning business management and operations, credit control, marketing, business development and client service for large and boutique law firms.
