Zoe and her husband had three young children at the time of their divorce. They had both worked during their fifteen year marriage.
What I wish I had known:
Leaving was easier than obtaining a proper separation. I tried to behave honourably but this only works if both parties behave in the same way.
The low point:
The constant renegotiation of terms and inability to move on – essentially the length of time it took to resolve matters.
The certainty that I did the right thing:
I have never changed my mind despite my ex-husband trying to woo me back.
One thing I would do differently:
I would have been tougher. I didn’t obtain resolution until I actually had a court date. If I had gone down this route earlier the financial settlement may have been resolved a year earlier.
