Oliver and his wife had been married for almost twenty years when his wife asked him for a divorce. They had four children, two young children and two teenagers. They used the collaborative process to agree the terms of their divorce settlement.
Did I do the right thing?
Having not made a very good marriage, when my former wife asked for a divorce, I decided to endeavour to make the best divorce ever. It sort of worked and I am now far prouder of my divorce than I ever was of my marriage. I think striving to make a “good divorce” should be an undertaking that both parties make to one to other right at the very beginning of the process. And it’s a pity there isn’t an “annual separation awards ceremony” when couples divorced in the last twelve months would be given prizes dependent on the testimonies of their children!
