Ian and his wife had been married for many years and had adult children at the time of their divorce. They tried unsuccessfully to use the collaborative approach to settle the issues between them.
My advice:
One piece of advice from my experience is not to let the process take so long. It is just too painful and draining to let things drag on. It stops you getting on with your life. Now its over, I feel a great sense of freedom and I no longer waste my time obsessing about how to conclude an agreement with someone I found myself in conflict with, when the solution seemed so clear – to me, at least. I am now feeling quite content with life keeping myself busy with some work, reading a lot, some travelling and enjoying spending time with my new partner, my friends and my sons.
